LISER Luxembourg Intitute of Socio-Economic ResearchLuxemburg
Head of Department of Labour Market
The Luxembourg Institute of Socio-Economic Research (LISER) is an interdisciplinary publicly funded research institute devoted to applied empirical research in economic, social and spatial sciences, conducted across three departments: Labour Market; Urban Development and Mobility; and Living Conditions. With an annual budget of ca. € 20m and about 160 employees, 85 of whom are economists, sociologists, political scientists and geographers, the Institute attracts top researchers from all over the world and provides high-level student training. Building on its scientific and policy expertise, the Institute addresses current and future societal challenges and provides relevant and independent policy advice both on the national and international level. The institute hosts a Data Center as well as a Platform on Behavioural and Experimental Economics.
LISER is now seeking to appoint a new Head for their Labour Market Department. Research in the Department is currently organised into three main research programmes: labour supply and career paths; workers' behaviours and firms' performance in the context of a knowledge society; and employment relations and collective bargaining. The Department is multidisciplinary and makes use of theoretical, quantitative and qualitative methodologies. With a proven ability to construct and develop creative teams for innovative and competitive research, the successful appointee will design and lead the research strategy of the Department as well as its multi-year performance program while also contributing to the strategic positioning of LISER and the Department within the national and international research landscape.
With strong communication skills and a broad international network, s/he will be an outstanding, internationally-recognised researcher in her/his field, with demonstrable leadership experience, and the ability to represent and promote LISER to public authorities, private organisations, stakeholders and collaborating partners both nationally and internationally. The Head of Department will be expected to show a strong commitment to developing the research careers of her/his department members as well as to promoting the impact of research results to policy makers and society in general. The successful appointee should hold a PhD in a related field, or equivalent recognised scientific competences, will have outstanding management skills, substantial experience in generating a high level of research income, innovative high impact scientific output and an interest in inter-disciplinary collaboration. Due to the multi-linguistic culture in Luxembourg and the Institute, in addition to English, knowledge of one or more of the official languages of Luxembourg (Luxembourgish/French/German) would be desirable.
