Post-doctoral research position (f/m/d)
The University Hospital Bonn is a maximum care facility with a regular capacity of 1.300 beds. Our current staff of more than 8.000 performs assigned duties in research, teaching and medical treatment, including the use of advanced medical technologies, and public health care services at the highest possible level. Interested applicants will be offered a wide range of employment opportunities in a variety of fields.
The interest of the laboratory of the Department of Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery, University of Bonn, Germany is focused on the signalling pathway-dependant regulation of brain tumour stem cells, especially in the context of interplay with an innate host immune system. Previous work concentrated on the role of the Wnt signalling, which is widely involved in development and disease. The group leader has vast experiences in experimental models of WNT and its utility in advancing translational application particular in brain cancers and neuropathic pain. The aim of future projects is the investigation of immunogenic processes triggered by human glioma cells and in in vitro/in vivo neuropathic pain models, focusing on the activation of T-cells and (micro)glia. This approach will employ Raman spectroscopy (in collaboration with University of Otago, New Zealand) as a fast and non-invasive technology that provides label free imaging of biological matters including the visualization of brain cancer invasion and immune system activation. This setup enables to work out spectral fingerprints of activated T-cells/microglia in relation to WNT activity in glioblastoma cells cultures and neuropathic pain models. Furthermore, the activity of the laboratory is embedded in close collaboration with several brain cancer research labs in Europe and the United States with an intensive local, national and international exchange being an important factor contributing to the successful development of the research.
