The Institute for Bioprocessing and Analytical Measurement Techniques is an application-oriented, non-university research institute of the Free State of Thuringia and an affiliated Institute of the Ilmenau Technical University with a highly developed technical infrastructure. Our stringent interdisciplinary high-level research focus "Biotechniques at Interfaces" aims for "Engineering of Molecular and Cellular Procedures for Disease Modeling". Special topics are e.g. personalised and early diagnosis of diseases, follow-up of therapies, impact of therapeutic drugs and influence of biofilms on human health by means of 3D cell models in combination with smart technical materials as scaffolds. Basic technologies of our research are fast broadband bio-impedance spectroscopy, drop-based microfluidics and functionalisation of bio-interfaces, established in three departments with about 60 employees.
To enhance our initial research, we are looking for a young, self-motivated scientist, who will lead a new junior research group consisting of two PhD students and a technical assistant. The group will investigate 3D cell structure and smart materials for disease modeling with high temporal and local resolution based on the Institute´s research profile.
Eligible applicants are scientists (PhD, preferably in natural science) with an excellent scientific track record, two to six years of post-doctoral experience at the time of application, experience in multi-disciplinary work and third-party fund-raising. The group leader is expected to participate in training and teaching at the university.
The salary will be based upon TV-L rules. The first contract is limited to three years (Science Employment Law). After three years, assuming a successful evaluation, significant results, publications in the above-mentioned research field, as well as third-party funding, the position will be extended by another three years. These six years will enable the group leader to launch a successful academic career.
Your application should include a cover letter, the CV, copies of the Master and PhD certificates and a list of your three most outstanding publications. In addition, please supply the concept for the junior research group (max 5 pages) as well as two or three references. Selected applicants will be invited to iba to introduce themselves and their research concept.
The Institute wants to foster the professional equality of women and men. Thus, applications from qualified women are encouraged.
Please send your application with the subject "E03/2018" by September 30, 2018, to
