A research associate position (postdoc) is available to work with Prof. Dr. Ralf Baumann at the MSH Medical School Hamburg GmbH (https://www.medicalschool-hamburg.de/en/). The MSH is a private, accredited university located in the modern Hafencity of Hamburg and hosts an entirely new laboratory complex equipped with state-of-the-art instrumentation for biomedical research.

Your tasks

The successful applicant will pursue experimental biomedical research projects focusing on the human immunology and toxicology of airway diseases, including allergic diseases and asthma (e.g., PMID 33128851), as well as (viral or bacterial) infectious lung diseases. A subset of projects investigates additional exposure with environmental or occupational (ultrafine) particles (e.g., 30257125). Close collaborators include groups at the RWTH Aachen, TU Munich and Imperial College London.

Your profile

• We are looking for a highly motivated, friendly, creative, reliable and dedicated individual, able to do research independently as well as a part of an interdisciplinary team.
• A completed Ph.D. degree in biological, biomedical or life sciences (or equivalent).
• Excellent background and expertise in standard molecular biology, biochemical, cell biological, immunological and/or microbiological techniques, including eukaryotic cell culture, isolation of primary human blood immune cells, Western Blot and qPCR.
• Documented experiences in one or more of the following techniques are a big plus: Spectral flow cytometry (Cytek Aurora with FlowJo or FCS Express software) of human samples, siRNA, cell transfection, non-coding RNAs, microbiology, virology, host pathogen interaction, BSL 2 experiments, genetics, epigenetics, methylation assays, single-cell analysis, next-generation sequencing, statistics or bioinformatics.
• Organizational skills and meticulous experimentation practices are expected.
• Previous postdoctoral experiences are a plus.
• Good knowledge of English is essential. Good knowledge of German is highly desirable.
• Very good communication and writing skills.
• Strong record of publications in peer-reviewed journals.
• Great enthusiasm for translational science.
