Professor of Gynecology (100 %)
A full-time permanent position as Professor of Gynecology is vacant at the University of Bergen, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, Department of Clinical Science. The place of work is at Haukeland Campus at Haukeland University Hospital, Bergen, Norway.

The position is attached to Bergen Gynecologic Cancer Research Group at the Department of Clinical Science. For qualified applicants an additional 20% position as consultant in gynecology at the Department of Gynecology, Haukeland University Hospital will be available. If there are no qualified MD applicants to the professorship, non-MD applicants with relevant research background will be preferred.

The applicant must have a relevant Norwegian doctorate or corresponding qualifications
The successful candidate will be teaching gynecology or related topics general
Emphasis will be put on the ability of the applicant to create a good research environment
Emphasis will be put on the ability to generate external research funding
Basic teaching training is a requirement. The successful candidate will be offered appropriate training if this requirement has not been met before the appointment
Emphasis will be put on experience as principle investigator of research projects, coordinating research programs and strategic research activities. Proven willingness and ability to cooperate will be of great importance in the evaluation process.
The teaching language in gynecology will normally be English. To be able to teach other parts of the medical curriculum the successful applicant must be able to teach in Norwegian or one of the other Scandinavian languages within two years of his/her appointment. Norwegian courses will be offered.
Professor salary will be paid in accordance with level 72-80 (code 1013) on the government salary scale, at present NOK 648 100 - 790 100 gross p.a. for a full-time position. A pension contribute of 2% will be deducted and deposited to the state pension scheme. In the case of highly qualified applicants a higher salary may be considered.

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
Full-time permanent position as Professor in Gynecology at the Department of Clinical Science
A full-time permanent position as professor of gynecology is vacant at the University of Bergen, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, Department of Clinical Science. The place of work is at Haukeland Campus, at Haukeland University Hospital, Bergen, Norway.
The Department of Clinical Science is one five departments at the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry and covers several of the clinical disciplines within the field of medicine. There are about 320 employees at the Department of Clinical Science which comprise 22 research groups and the administration.
The Department of Clinical Science offers teaching within several clinical fields, including gynecology. The department has important tasks in the training of new doctors as well as master degree programs and PhD education within medicine, pharmacy and nutrition.
The successful candidate shall be part of Bergen Gynecologic Cancer Research Group, BGCRG at the Department of Clinical Science. The BGCRG is a large, active group comprising 3 permanent positions, 5 postdocs and 7 PhD candidates. The research group has established the Bergen Gynecological Cancer Biobank including clinical data with special reference to endometrial cancer. The biobank is extensive also by international standards.
The BGCRG has a close collaboration with the Department of Gynecology, Haukeland University Hospital, which comprises an ESCO accredited section for gynecological cancer. The BGCRG also has a close collaboration with CCBIO which is a Centre of Excellence (CoE) at the Faculty of medicine and Dentistry, University of Bergen.
The successful candidate must hold a relevant Norwegian doctorate or corresponding qualifications. The successful candidate will be teaching general and basic clinical skills within the fields of gynecology and related cancer topics. The successful candidate will also supervise Bachelor-, Master- and PhD-students at the department.
Emphasis will be put on the applicant‘s experience as a principle investigator of research projects, coordinating of research activity and strategic research activities. Documented abilities and willingness to participate in collaborative work will be emphasised.
The teaching language will normally be Norwegian. The successful applicant must be able to teach in Norwegian or one of the other Scandinavian languages within two years of his/her
appointment. The teaching language in gynecology is English. The successful candidate therefore needs to be fluent in English.
Basic teaching competence is also a requirement, but the successful applicant who does not have such competence at the time of his/her appointment will be offered training and will be required to produce evidence of such competence within one year of the date of appointment. This deadline is extended to two years for the successful applicant who does not master a Scandinavian language at the time of appointment.
Reference is made to the University‘s General Regulations which state that as part of the normal duties of the position, the successful applicant may also be required to undertake teaching, supervision and work in connection with examinations in his or her particular field outside the organisational unit to which the appointment belongs.
