Saarland University is a campus-based university with international focus and pronounced research-oriented profile.

The Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technology at Saarland University seeks to fill two Professorships in the field of Polymer Sciences (Polymer Materials and Polymer Chemistry) with an anticipated starting date in October 2019. The successful candidates shall be internationally renowned scientists and are expected to fully represent their respective fields in research and teaching:

Department of Chemistry

W3-Professorship in Polymer Chemistry
(reference W1351)

The research focus will be on the development and the synthesis of adaptive and/or stimuliresponsive organic polymers. In teaching, Organic Macromolecular Chemistry and the core subject Organic Chemistry shall be covered in the Bachelor- and Master-Degree Programmes of the department as well as in the interdisciplinary Master Programme in Materials Chemistry.

Participation in the international degree courses of the respective departments is expected. The commitment to existing and/or the initiation of new joint research programmes of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technology as well as the collaboration with nonuniversity research institutions at Saarbrücken is desirable.
At Saarland University, we view internationalization as a process that spans all aspects of University life. We therefore expect members of our professorial staff to engage in activities that promote and foster further internationalization and to be willing to teach in a foreign language (particularly in English). Particular support is offered to cooperative projects with partners within the Saar-Lor-Lux region as part of the ’University of the Greater Region’ (www.uni-gr.eu).

Aside from standards set by general employment legislation, eligibility criteria include a University Degree in the corresponding or a related field, educational skills, proven aptness for original scientific work (usually documented by the quality of the doctorate or PhD) as well as a track record of past independent research (e.g. in a habilitation, assistant professorship or equivalent). Original publications in leading journals, the documented acquisition of third-party funding as well as experience in staff management, academic administration and (documented) international mobility are viewed favourably.

Information on the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technology is available via the internet at http://www.uni-saarland.de/fakultaet/nt. Please submit your application with curriculum vitae, copies of certificates and your private address (incl. contact phone number and e-mail address) quoting the respective reference number until the 30th April 2018 to the Dean of the Faculty NT, Univ.-Prof. Dr. Guido Kickelbick, Campus, Geb. A5.1, 66123 Saarbrücken. Please also include an electronic version of the complete application plus pdf-files of your 10 most important publications and fill in the online form (http://www.uni-saarland.de/fakultaet/nt/aktuelles.html). Application material will not be returned.
Saarland University is an equal opportunities employer and strives to increase the proportion of women in this area of employment. Women are therefore explicitly encouraged to apply. Severely disabled applicants with equal qualification and aptitude will be given preferential consideration.
