University of Potsdam's Faculty of Health Sciences – a joint faculty of
the University
of Potsdam, the Brandenburg Medical School “Theodor Fontane” and the Brandenburg
Technical University Cottbus-Senftenberg – hereby announces a joint professorship under the
Karlsruhe Model with the
Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft to be filled at the next possible point in time:
Full Professorship (W 3) for Bioanalytics
with simultaneous appointment
as a member of the directorate of the Fraunhofer-Institute for Cell Therapy and
Immunology IZI.
The successful candidate is expected to have an outstanding research record on an international
level in the field of medical and diagnostic bioanalytics. Topics of expertise may include
point-of-care diagnostics, process technology, microsensor technology or microfluidic systems
for bioanalytical processes as well as biofunctional materials for diagnostics, disease
prevention and therapy or the identification and validation of biomarkers particularly related
to the medicine of ageing and lifestyle-related diseases.
The topics of your research profile should augment the main activities of the Faculty of
Health Science, the University of Potsdam and those of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft. They
should also form a strong basis for cooperations with academic and industrial research partners
located at the Campus Golm or in the Berlin-Brandenburg metropolitan area. Your
future activities ought to establish strategic links between the faculty, the university and
the Fraunhofer Institute by combining basic research sciences with application-oriented research
and development and transfer at Fraunhofer. Within the directorate of the Fraunhofer
Institute for Cell Therapy and Immunology IZI, you will head the site at Potsdam-Golm, which
is to be further developed into an independent research unit of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft.
The candidate is expected to strongly engage in teaching covering the entire field of bioanalytics,
which includes the development of new degree programs. Strong national and
international networks as well as a documented educational record are expected.
You possess a strong track record of publicly funded grants and industry projects covering
the strategic planning, acquisition and successful completion thereof. Experience in managing
of large research groups is a key qualification for this position. In order to optimize
the output of large research and development projects, you are able to communicate clear
objectives and you are familiar with the implementation of efficient processes. The transfer
and the exploitation of results from research into innovative products are key elements of
your professional motivation.

The professorial employment relationship will be constituted with the University of Potsdam.
The following application requirements for professors must be documented in accordance
with Section 41 of the Brandenburg Higher Education Act (Brandenburgisches Hochschulgesetz,
BbgHG): a completed university degree, pedagogical aptitude, and a particular ability
for scientific and scholarly work, typically documented by a dissertation project; comprehensive
competences in science management and additional scholarly achievements as
evidenced by a Habilitation (post-doctoral dissertation), a junior professorship or work as a
research associate at an institution of higher education or an extramural research institution,
or scholarly activity in the private sector or in another social field, whether in Germany or
abroad. The appointment procedure is conducted in accordance with Section 40 BbgHG.
