Gesellschaft zur Förderung der Lebenswissenschaften Heidelberg GmbH (GFLW) is a non-profit enterprise, wholly owned by EMBO, dedicated to the advancement of science through the support and training of life scientists.
GFLW runs approximately 40 residential and up to 20 remote training courses for life scientists each year in topics including: leadership, project management, negotiation, scientific writing, research integrity, and creative problem solving. Soft Skills Trainer for Life Scientists
in Heidelberg, Germany
GFLW is seeking to hire a trainer with a STEM background to deliver training from our portfolio to life scientists worldwide. The successful candidate will also contribute to the development of courses and the acquisition of new clients. The job is located in Heidelberg, Germany.
Qualifications & Experience
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications and experience. Preference will be given to candidates who have previously worked with life scientists, but all candidates will be considered:
Postgraduate degree in any STEM subject
At least 2 years‘ experience in a management or leadership role in a life science research or science-related organization
Track record of delivering training (especially to life scientists)
The successful candidate will be a skilled and passionate educator and facilitator with a track record of delivering training, in particular to life scientists, in a professional setting. She or he will also have professional experience of management or leadership in a research (e.g. a Group Leader or senior postdoc in a laboratory) or science-related (e.g. a scholarly society or graduate school coordinator) position to draw upon. The successful candidate will be a good communicator, creative, autonomous, reliable, flexible, willing to learn, able to work in a team, and will have high emotional intelligence.
Candidates who have not worked in a life science research or science-related setting might be considered, depending on their experience. We are looking for engaged people with a passion for training and believe that a variety of backgrounds may be appropriate to the position.
The successful candidate will work with the GFLW Project Coordinator and consultant training teams to learn and subsequently deliver EMBO's Laboratory Leadership courses for group leaders and postdocs in the life sciences, as well as courses on project management, communication of science to non-specialists, scientific writing, research integrity, and other topics as new courses are brought online. The successful candidate will also support the GFLW Project Coordinator in strategic and administrative tasks as they relate to the development and delivery of training and the acquisition of clients. A high degree of flexibility, creativity and adaptability will be required in the execution of the various duties.
The salary will be commensurate with the education, experience and skills required for the position at a non-profit organisation.
