Job Description:
The Pollak and Polz labs at the Department of Microbiology and Ecosystem Science are looking for a postdoc to study how biological and ecological interactions shape microbial and ecosystem evolution and function. The job will be primarily in the Pollak lab, with a strong collaboration with the Polz lab. Work will include genomic analysis, propagation of complex bacterial soil communities in mesocosms, isolation of bacterial strains, setting up large scale high-throughput growth and genetic manipulation experiments, and developing theory and computational tools to synthesize experimental results. The ultimate goal is to understand how the genetic structure of a population, which determines and is shaped by interactions across scales, translates to large-scale ecosystem function. Eventually, our goal is to predict how climate change would perturb these structure-function maps. The candidate is expected to drive the research project but also to actively participate in teaching and administration. This includes involvement in research projects/research studies, international publications, and presentations at seminars, workshops and conferences. The supervision of students and teaching as regulated by the collective agreement is expected. We invite applicants to submit their curriculum vitae, letter of intent, and diplomas.
Profile:
Successful candidates should have a doctoral degree in any field of biology, and should possess considerable computational skills and laboratory experience in microbiology. A publication record in international peer-reviewed journals documenting these skills is expected. Good communication skills in English (written and spoken) are mandatory. The ability to work in a team is essential.
