University Assistant (prae doc)
at the Department of Meteorology and Geophysics

Reference number: 9006

The Section of Geophysics is seeking to fill a predoctoral position in the field of seismology. The successful candidate is expected to perform research and teaching, and to write a dissertation. The topic will be on structure/deformation of the Earth`s crust/mantle or the near-surface region, ideally in connection with the international AlpArray project (European Alps). Analyzing data from broadband seismological instruments and performing field experiments using our autonomous short-period (Nodal) instruments are an integral part of the thesis. Interest in seismological modeling would also be highly appreciated.

The region of study is particularly interesting due to the active deformation, the seismic hazard in a populated area, the presence of hydrocarbon resources (and the oil industry), and international organizations, e.g. the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO).
