The Department of Political Science, a subunit of the Faculty of Social Sciences, addresses all major fields of political science. It is dedicated to innovative and problem-oriented research and provides students with a wide range of specialisations. Members of the Department study the transformation of governance, statehood and democracy across different policy areas, geographical regions and political areas.
We announce two open positions (University Assistant prae doc) in the field of comparative politics/Eastern and South-Eastern Europe.
The employment is initially limited to 1.5 years and is automatically extended to 4 years, unless the employer submits a declaration of non-extension within 12 months.
Duration of employment: 4 year/s
Extent of Employment: 30.0 hours/week
Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement: §48 VwGr. B1 Grundstufe (praedoc) with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade.
Job Description:
Participation in research, teaching and administration in the field of comparative politics/Eastern and South-Eastern Europe (Univ.-Prof. Dr. Dorothee Bohle):
- Participation in research projects and research funding applications
- Participation in publications / academic articles / presentations
- We expect the successful candidate to sign a doctoral thesis agreement within 12-18 months.
- Participation in teaching and teaching courses independently according to the collective bargaining agreement
- Supervision of students
- Participation in the organisation of meetings, conferences, symposia
- Participation in the department administration as well as in teaching and research administration
Profile:
- University degree (master’s degree or equivalent degree) in the field of political science or a similar discipline with a focus on political science
- Specialisation in an area of comparative politics (e.g. comparative democratisation, comparative authoritarianism, comparative political economy, comparative migration studies)
- Familiarity with comparative politics research on Eastern Europe and/or South Eastern Europe
- Good knowledge of qualitative methods. Competence in quantitative methods is an advantage
- Didactic competence
- Excellent command of English, and ideally German. Knowledge of an East/South-East European language is an advantage. Applicants who do not know German are encouraged to develop appropriate language skills.
- Ability to work in a team
Desirable qualifications are
- Teaching experience / experience with e-learning
- Knowledge of university processes and structures
- International experience
- Basic experience in academic research
