at the Quantum Optics, Quantum Nanophysics and Quantum Information

Professor Aspelmeyer's research group as part of Quantum Optics, Quantum Nanophysics and Quantum Information investigates quantum effects of nano- and microscale mechanical systems and their implications for the foundations and applications of quantum physics and precision measurement. The group conducts successful and internationally recognized research in the field of quantum science. For further reinforcement we are looking for a University Assistant (praedoc) to join our group.
The announcement is made for four years, whereby the employment relationship is initially limited to 1.5 years and is automatically extended to a total of four years, unless the employer submits a declaration of non-renewal after a maximum of 12 months.
Duration of employment: 4 year/s
Extent of Employment: 30.0 hours/week
Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement: §48 VwGr. B1 Grundstufe (praedoc) with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade.
Job Description:
Participation in research, teaching and administration:
- Participation in research projects / research studies
- Participation in publications / academic articles / presentations
- We expect the successful candidate to sign a doctoral thesis agreement within 12-18 months.
- Participation in teaching and independent teaching of courses as defined by the collective agreement
- Supervision of students
- Involvement in the organisation of meetings, conferences, symposiums
- Involvement in the department administration as well as in teaching and research administration
Profile:
- Professional competence: Master or diploma degree in Physics, background related to quantum optomechanics research, either in experiment, i.e. optics, laser physics, quantum optics, quantum mechanics etc., or in theory, i.e. theory of quantum optics, light-matter interaction, quantum master equations, etc.
- Methodological competence: experience either in experimental research, preferably in the domain of either optical trapping, interferometry, microfabrication, electronics, or in theoretical research, preferably in the domain of open quantum systems
- Didactic competence: experience either in experimental research, preferably in the domain of either optical trapping, interferometry, microfabrication, electronics, or in theoretical research, preferably in the domain of open quantum systems
- High ability to express yourself both orally and in writing
- Excellent command of written and spoken English
- IT user skills
- Ability to work in a team
Desirable qualifications are
- Teaching experience / experience of working with e-learning
- Knowledge of university processes and structures
- Experience abroad
- Basic experience in research methods and academic writing
