The Institute for Social Sciences at the
School of Educational and Social Sciences (Faculty I) seeks applications for a
W3 professorship (f/m/x) in “Social Stratification”
commencing 1st April 2025.
commencing
as soon as possible.
The position holder will represent Social Stratification in its breadth and therefore must have a research focus in at least two corresponding fields (e.g. analysis of social inequalities; income, educational and labour market inequalities; migration and integration processes; social networks and transnationalization; as well as the (re)production of social inequalities in the course of the technological, demographic and ecological change). We require the successful candidate to have a research focus that is compatible with research at the Institute in the area of "Knowledge and Organization" or "Social and Political Inequalities". Likewise, a connection to at least one of the three university research foci (digitization, sustainability and participation) is required, which should be addressed in the research concept based on previous project and/or publication activities. An empirically sound working method is required, whereby international comparative studies are desired. The successful candidate must have a degree as well as a doctorate in the social sciences or a closely related field (e.g. in economics).
In teaching, the position holder represents the field of "Social Stratification" in full breadth, and related teaching experience is a prerequisite. The willingness and ability to teach in English and the willingness of non-German speaking candidates to acquire German language skills are also required.
The experience and willingness to participate in cooperations, also across disciplinary boundaries, are desired.
The guideline for the appointment is a scientific track record in the above-mentioned research areas, which is demonstrated by publications in international peer-reviewed journals and equally renowned book publications. Experience with the independent acquisition and management of third-party funded projects is a prerequisite. The willingness to participate in the acquisition of coordinated research networks is a prerequisite and should be addressed in the research concept. As the University of Oldenburg and the University of Bremen are bound by a cooperation agreement, active participation in the cooperation is expected.
Prerequisites for employment are specified in section 25 of the Lower Saxony Higher Education Act (NHG). The University aims to increase its proportion of female professors and strongly encourages female scientists to apply. Equally qualified female candidates will be considered preferentially. In case of equal aptitude, applicants with disabilities will be given priority in hiring decisions. The position is suitable for part-time employment.
Applications including a full curriculum vitae, certificates, a list of publications, an account of present and previous third-party funded research activities focussing on the last 5 years, a research concept as well as a list of courses taught, a list of course evaluation results of the last 3 years (if available), and an overview of formal presentations given are to be submitted, preferably as a consolidated PDF file,
by 9th October 2023 to Carl von Ossietzky Universität Oldenburg, Attn: Dean of Faculty I, 26111 Oldenburg, Germany,
